VCV Rack 2 instrument family

Homodyne

A lock-in amplifier taken apart and made patchable.

Architecture

Six views into one unusual signal path.

Homodyne turns the functional blocks of a musical lock-in amplifier into separate VCV modules. Place the family together and its VCV expander interface supplies the normalled signal path; patching a destination jack overrides that normal. Every block remains available for unrelated patches.

Preview status

Ready for platform testing.

The current VCV baseline is accepted on Apple Silicon. Matching Intel macOS, Windows x64, and Linux x64 packages have been cross-built and published to the private test node for acceptance on their native machines.

Module family

Patch the whole instrument or borrow a block.

Amp module

Amp

Stepped preamplification, differential input, AC coupling, and voltage-controlled gain.

Bandf module

Bandf

A pingable variable-bandwidth filter with centre, width, and resonance control.

Quadosc module

Quadosc

A through-zero quadrature oscillator with sine/cosine outputs and pitch tracking.

Demod module

Demod

Quadrature multiplication, time-constant filtering, and sum/difference outputs.

Hilbert module

Hilbert

A wideband phase-splitting network with in-phase and quadrature outputs.

Polar module

Polar

Converts I/Q signals into magnitude and phase control voltages.

Lineage

An independent digital interpretation.

The project is inspired by the signal architecture and musical possibilities of the Joranalogue Audio Design × Hainbach Collide 4 and by historical lock-in amplifiers. Its software, DSP implementation, panel system, and separation into six modules are independent Kurkesmurfer work. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Joranalogue Audio Design or Hainbach.

This is a digital VCV instrument, not an electrical model of the analogue hardware. Expect its own gain structure, nonlinearities, limits, and sound.
