Open instruments for VCV Rack

Kurkesmurfer

Original digital instruments shaped by unusual hardware, careful reconstruction, and hands-on musical use.

The first collection

SpaceTime

A modular, multi-playhead arbitrary function generator inspired by the Buchla 248 MARF. Program one field of stages, then move up to eight independent heads through it.

  • VerifiedVCV Rack build and host test suite on Apple Silicon
  • BuiltmacOS arm64/x64, Windows x64, and Linux x64 packages
  • TestingRelease-candidate builds; Intel macOS, Windows, and Linux acceptance pending

Quadrature spectral tools

Homodyne

Six patchable building blocks explore the lock-in amplifier as an instrument: amplification, variable-bandwidth filtering, quadrature oscillation and demodulation, phase splitting, and polar computation.

Muse

Muse is a dense stereo drone voice animated by a field of oscillators and low-frequency modulators. Muse-XT extends it with a consonance control that reduces the broad harmonic space to progressively simpler interval families.

Motion-sensitive wavefolding

Inflection

Four independent mirror folders make the fold spacing respond to signal motion. Slow shapes remain broad while fast edges can drive into tighter, denser reflections.

Ninety-nine-stage phase laboratory

MultiPhaser

A stereo all-pass network with continuously addressed stages, sixteen selectable tap pairs, CV and clock scanning, and a compact variable-Q phase voice.

MetaModule

Open instruments, adapted for embedded use.

Kurkesmurfer maintains independent MetaModule ports with public source, hardware test notes, direct downloads, and clear credit to the original authors.

Specific instruments, transparent lineage.

Kurkesmurfer projects credit their inspirations, separate original work from reference material, and publish source, manuals, limitations, and test status together.
